Please don't rely on surveys. The real survey will be in the poll precints. Meanwhile, enjoy your *false survey*!

Erap’s ‘command votes’ to propel victory

03/13/2010

Former President Joseph Estrada, standard-bearer of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), enjoys substantial command votes of six to seven million, more than enough to win the presidency.

Professor Alfredo Sureta, executive director of survey firm StratPOLLS, said Estrada remains a “force to reckon with” in the presidential
race.

Sureta pointed out that the “ability of the candidates to translate the local support into votes” is a key factor that could change the “trend considerably.”

“Translating local support into votes can only be felt once the local campaigns get into full swing,” he pointed out.

Sureta acknowledged that Estrada is “worth watching when it comes to translating local support (into votes) because he still enjoys the loyalty of local leaders.”

“The latest StratPOLLS survey clearly shows that the youth votes are being contested by LP candidate Noynoy Aquino and NP candidate Manny Villar who earned 38 percent and 32 percent respectively, while Teodoro earned 11 percent, even behind former President Estrada’s 13 percent in this sector.

Sureta said Estrada’s command votes are substantial to “decide the outcome of the election should he opt out and support either presidential aspirants Aquino, Villar or Teodoro.

Sureta explained: “A crucial factor to the current campaign is the possibility of Estrada withdrawing from the race and throwing the full weight of his support to either Aquino or Villar. Either way, they said, that move would seal the fate of the next president of the land.”

Estrada had accused Villar’s camp of trying to bribe him to withdraw from the race. He did not disclose the amount though.

Sureta said the usual caveat for a bribe offer is a refund of all the expenses incurred in the campaign.

In Sorsogon City, Estrada yesterday said that local candidates of the administration Lakas Kampi CMD are now planning to shift to his party.

“As election day nears, Lakas is getting stronger in becoming weak (Ang Lakas habang lumalapit ang araw ng election, lumalakas ang hina),” Estrada told national media here at the Sorsogon State College.

Estrada and his party, vice presidential candidate Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, and senatorial candidates, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, Agusan del Sur Rep. Rodolfo “Ompong” Plaza,, former Negros Occidental Rep. Apolinario ” Jun” Lozada, and former Sen. Francisco “Kit” Tatad, were on the last leg of their initial campaign in the Bicol region.

Estrada claimed that the reasons for the administration candidates plan to shift to the PMP was the lack of support from their party leadership, President Arroyo and standard bearer Teodoro.

He said that the PMP is willing to accept the administration candidates if their “backgrounds are good.”

“Why not, when we see that their record and background are good even if they are from Lakas?” Estrada said, adding that administration candidates, most of whom are incumbent, are only waiting for their Special Allotment and Release Order (Saro) before jumping ship.

Estrada also expressed high hopes that he would receive a landslide in Bicolandia.

“The welcome accorded me and my senators is really very, very warm and affectionate. They are happy to see us, which is why I am convinced that we will win by a landslide here,” he said.

“I am told that this is the first time that this has happened, There has been no announcement for the people to come out to the streets, that’s why we are so happy to be here, and to be with the people—especially as we have no celebrities with us,” he stressed.

Estrada also dropped by the house of Sorsogon Rep. Jose Solis, and former Sorsogon Gov. Raul Lee who were both members of Lakas Kampi CMD and both running for governor of the province. With Gerry Baldo and Charlie V. Manalo
